New council officers named

By Andrea Zarah Dayao

New set of Student Council (SC) officers were named last March 8 after holding a four-day election period at Social Hall last March 3-6.

Most of the officers elected were from Union of Scholasticans in Service and Action Party (UNISISA) where two of the candidates are former SC officers; Jemimah Landicho who was the Internal-Vice President last school year was elected as Council President and Kimberly Cristobal who was the Third year Batch Representative was elected as Internal-Vice President.

Other UNISISA members who were elected were External-Vice President Kritina Misajon, Secretary General Bernadette Viray, Finance Officer Margarette Salanguit, and Third Year Batch Representative Andrea Rivera.

BIGKIS Party, on the other hand, was able to secure a position, Celine Pagobo, an incoming fourth year Mass Communication student was elected as Fourth Year Batch Representative.

All hopes up

With the election of new officers, many scholasticans hope that next academic year will be a better and more exciting year for students.

“I cannot exactly tell whether I am contented with the results of the SC elections, first and foremost, I just know them by name and it was a requirement in school so I voted,” an AB Literature sophomore commented. “Also, I expect that they would be better representatives of the school. I hope that no fees would be asked from us, students. In order for me or for the other students to know them, it would be better if they would get in touch with us through school updates or activities,” she added.

A junior accounting student also emphasized that the previous SC officers weren’t really visible for her, few activities were evident that caused the previous officers to hardly reach out to students. “I am expecting a more exciting school year where the students will be given a chance to be active in many ways with lots of programs that will surely be loved by many, and new and exciting projects that will make us more productive as students and as teens of the future,” as asked for her expectations for the new set of officers for the academic year 2010-2011.

When asked whether they are satisfied with the new set of SC officers, “My satisfaction on the newly elected officers is still yet to be determined. It is inevitable that other candidates I voted for may not win, but the rule of the majority applies in all election and therefore people should before hand accept the fact that other candidates they voted for may lose,” as responded by a junior political science student. “But for now, I want them to be visible enough, I hope that they would be approachable in a sense that we may be able to feel their presence that there may also be transparency so we may inquire about anything without any hesitations.”, she added.
